Sun Valley Jose Mier promotes Pacifica Hosital of the Valley

Sun Valley Jose Mier, as you know, continuously promotes the positive aspects of Sun Valley, California and one of these is our own local hospital. Having access to a hospital within our borders means our residents do not have to travel far for routine or emergency health care.

The hospital provides a variety of services in addition to emergency treatment including inpatient and outpatient treatments, telemedicine and care for those who have coronavirus. Like many hospitals in California during our bout with this pandemic, visitors unfortunately are not allowed. This can be heartbreaking for families who have a relative stricken by COVID-19, but it’s something we have to live with for better or worse right now.

The availability of medical services in a community is one of the primary concerns of anyone living in the community or wishing to move to that community. For those who are thinking of relocating to our city the fact that we have world-class medical care as well as so many other amenities and recreational opportunities should put Sun Valley at or near the top of any list.

One of the reasons Sun Valley Jose Mier established this website was to make known all the features and attractions of Oour city which for too long have been overlooked by most of greater Los Angeles. We have felt that Sun Valley has gotten short shrift for far too long and it’s our purpose to publicize the tremendously positive facets of our city. The fact that we have access to medical care in Pacifica Hospital of the Valley should make Sun Valley rate that much higher than our sister cities of the San Fernando Valley. We are proud to have Pacific Hospital as a valued member of our community.

Sun Valley Jose Mier Report on Closest Facilities

Caring.com is a website that lists assisted living facilities in local areas. We in Sun Valley are fortunate to have not one, but three such facilities within our borders and there are others that are only a short distance away as well.

As you know from other articles on Sun Valley Jose Mier the median age in Sun Valley is relatively low. We have a rather youthful population here but that doesn’t mean we don’t have our share of senior citizens, some of whom may require assisted living.

One of the other good aspects about life in Sun Valley California is that the cost of assisted living in our area, much like the median housing prices, is lower then surrounding areas and the national average as well.

According to Caring.com the median assisted-living cost per month is $2,800 which is below the national median of $3,460. Just like buying a home in Sun Valley, finding affordable assisted living facilities is easier in our community then elsewhere.

Safety in Sun Valley

Closest Police Station in Neighboring Pacoima

When it comes to safety in Sun Valley, we at Sun Valley Jose Mier, like all our neighbors rely on the Los Angeles Police Department to keep our community safe. The closest LAPD station is the Foothill Division station located at 12760 Osborne St. in Pacoima, just outside the borders of Sun Valley.

The LAPD Foothill Division web page contains a wealth of information that can be utilized to make Sun Valley even safer. We, as residents, can’t just take it for granted that the police will take care of everything. Safety takes the efforts of everyone, not just law enforcement and using the LAPD website can give you additional information and resources to help law enforcement do their job better.

One tool which we find helpful is the Crime Mapping website. This website allows you to see what crimes have been committed in the area such as theft, grand theft, burglaries, etc. You can also sign up to receive alerts through this website. Should a pattern of crime develop in a certain area, you’ll be aware of it and be able to take precautions.

Having the division located close to Sun Valley also means that response times for police calls should be shorter. Still, it’s better to be able to anticipate and prevent crimes than to worry about response times when one does occur. We urge all Sun Valleyites to familiarize themselves with the police website and take advantage of the tools it has to offer.

Shopping Opportunities in Sun Valley

Kohl's store in Sun Valley CA

Sun Valley Jose Mier Visits Laurel Canyon Center

Sun Valley, as we’ve repeatedly said, is located within easy driving distance to… well, just about anywhere you’d need to go in Southern California. Being close to our neighboring cities of Burbank and Glendale, we have a wealth of retail options within minutes of our homes. The Glendale Galeria, Americana at Brand in Glendale as well as Burbank’s Town Center are just a few of the malls we have easy access to when we need to go shopping. But Sun Valley has its own shopping center, meaning we need not even travel outside our community to purchase items we need.

The shopping center is located at the corner of Laurel Canyon Blvd. and Roscoe St. The “anchor” store here is Kohl’s, but the center is also home to Bank of America and Chase Bank as well as Ralphs grocery store. Other fast food outlets and assorted retail shops are located here as well, including Baskin-Robbins and Waba Grill.

Sun Valley Jose Mier shops local Kohl’s store

Kohl’s is of special interest not only because it stocks clothing and household goods at low prices (no shameless plug, just the truth) but it’s also the closest location to use for Amazon returns. Many is the time we here at Sun Valley Jose Mier have made a trip to Kohl’s to drop off an item we bought on Amazon.com only to find it wasn’t the correct one or had some defect. Returns are super easy and the fact that this store is right in the middle of Sun Valley makes it even easier.

Of course having an Amazon returns desk located in the store is a way for Kohl’s to get shoppers inside the store and many do take a look around and end up buying some item or other. It’s a win-win for Kohl’s. Note that customers returning Amazon items also get a discount coupon to use while shopping.

This shopping center on Laurel Canyon makes life in Sun Valley more attractive. As if you needed another reason to live here!

Sun Valley Jose Mier Spots Housing Deals

Visitors to Sun Valley Jose Mier know that we promote our community is one of the underappreciated locations in greater Los Angeles. Sun Valley admittedly does not have the cache of a Newport Beach or Beverly Hills although we have our share of mansions and hillside properties. Still, on average, housing costs in Sun Valley are lower than elsewhere and this makes it attractive to those who want or need to live close to the center of Los Angeles in without spending an arm and a leg to do so.

According to curbed.com the average price of the condominium in Los Angeles is around $530,000. That’s a steep price or someone looking for entry-level housing, but among the other qualities of Sun Valley California is that affordable housing can be found here. One case in point is a recent listing on propertyshark.com for a condominium at 11813 Runnymede St. This seven hundred square foot condominium is being priced at $229,000. Taking a look at the photos on the site we can see that everything has been upgraded and this is a top-of-the-line condominium in a great location and complex.

Sun Valley Jose Mier shares Runnymede St. condo Sun Valley, CA

This is just one example of the housing opportunities we have in Sun Valley and one of the reasons we feel our community and our neighborhoods provide a standard of living that can’t be equaled for the cost.

As we mentioned above we’re only about 10 miles from the center of Los Angeles making commutes relatively painless. In addition the availability of public transportation such as Metrolink can reduce our residents need even to get on the freeways. However, should we need to drive ourselves we are blessed by the fact that Interstate 5 runs directly through Sun Valley, bisecting it from north to south. We could go on, but we won’t. All of the amenities and superlatives about Sun Valley could be found in other articles on the Sun Valley Jose Mier website. We just want to take the opportunity once more to remind those looking for housing in Southern California that Sun Valley has what you want and at a price you can afford.

Sun Valley, CA City Council Member: Paul Krekorian

A Bit of History on Councilman’s Website

If you didn’t know, our council member (Sun Valley is part of Los Angeles, right?) is Paul Krekorian. The areas he administers include Sun Valley, (of course) but also Valley Glen, Valley Village, Van Nuys, Studio City and North Hollywood.

All the things overseen by the Los Angeles City Council in our area are in Mr. Krekorian’s bailiwick. So, if you were unfamiliar with who our particular council member is, no you know. You can visit his website here.

One item of interest when you do visit the site is a bit of Sun Valley history. As the website states, back in the 1800s Sun Valley was known as Roberts. Apparently this was the only store in the area and lent its name to the location. Also, Sun Valley was home to many Lockheed Martin operations during World War Two. The remnants of Lockheed’s operations were in existence until the 1990s (even though defunct) but they were a testament to how our little part of greater LA played a part in the defeat of Nazism.

Sun Valley borders the Burbank Airport which was the site of much of Lockheed’s work during those years and, being so close to Burbank, Sun Valley lent its land in support of the war effort.

All this is something most Sun Valley residents may not know, but if you live here (and why wouldn’t you want to?) you should know a little bit about how our town came into being and what’s been happening here over the years. Even our little hidden gem of a community has a storied past. Just one more thing that makes Sun Valley special.

Thanks, Paul Krekorian for helping to promote what we at Sun Valley Jose Mier think is a small piece of heaven in Southern California.

Sun Valley California Growth

Apartment Boom Taking Place

When Sun Valley Jose Mier launched this website we did it with one goal in mind: to promote how are special community. We’ve always said that Sun Valley is unique when compared to other cities throughout the San Fernando Valley but we seem to be on the cusp of a construction boom that is remaking our city and slowly but surely Sun Valley is becoming one of the premier locations within greater Los Angeles. Yet another apartment complex is on the books to begin construction. It will be a three story, 100+ unit building to be located at 8465 Glenoaks Blvd. Residents in this area know well the location is quite close to the intersection of Glenoaks and Hollywood Way. Currently there are residential houses located here in the development will necessitate their destruction and removal.

8465 N. Glenoaks Bd. Sun Valley, CA Street View
Sun Valley Jose Mier screenshot of 8465 N. Glenoaks Bd.

This stretch of Glenoaks is usually very quiet and except for rush hour traffic—lots of cars getting on and off Interstate 5 at this location—the street is usually wide open, free of traffic and where most drivers zip down the road at higher speeds. Apartment development is always a double edged sword, however. A fairly large unit such as the one proposed will, of course, mean increased traffic and congestion in the area due to higher population density. This section of Glenoaks this also divided by a median, making turns onto Glenoaks from streets which feed onto it difficult at times, especially when there’s higher traffic levels.

All this needs to be taken into account. Regardless, new construction in this area means more Sun Valley jobs and more people moving into this area and increases our tax base and revenue. New, modern construction, depending on the design, can also have the effect of increasing the visual appeal of the area. This is not the only apartment building project slated to begin in Sun Valley. Others in the Lankershim area of our city as well as the NoHo Metro redevelopment will also contribute to an overall improvement in the look and feel of our community as well as boosting the economy. Sun Valley continues to improve in many areas and this is just one more example. It’s yet another reason Sun Valley Jose Mier takes pride in our growing, improving community.

Sun Valley Goes Solar

Solar panels on Sun Valley Business Park

Pendleton St. Rooftop a Collects the Sunshine

Odds are you have never seen it but There are 15 acres of solar panels just above our heads here in Sun Valley. Most folks don’t have a reason to drive up Pendelton Street in the northern section of our community but the relatively new development, the Sun Valley Business Center which is located here is a massive facility on 15 acres of land.

Solar panels on Sun Valley Business Park
Solar panels on Sun Valley Business Park – Very Close to Sun Valley Jose Mier Office

You need a big ladder or a helicopter to take a look at the rooftop, but once you’re there you see that the roof is being utilized to collect sunlight using the latest solar panel technology. This is part of a plan that Los Angeles has for businesses to make use of the rooftops, collect solar energy and sell it back to Los Angeles at a good price.

15 acres is a large plot of land in the amount of solar energy there can be collected here is substantial. Being able to harness solar power and offset the cost of heating or cooling a large facility such as this makes it very attractive for the owners of the property.

Some of the progress being made in Sun Valley and its environs isn’t readily visible, but little by little our section of Los Angeles is becoming ever more sophisticated. The nearby Tesla charging station is another aspect of how Los Angeles is making use of green energy and the Sun Valley business Park is one more example.

While solar energy is not going to address all the needs of Southern California and Sun Valley in particular, it does in certain instances makes sense. If a developer can save or recoup money by installing solar panels then it makes economic sense. The addition of solar panels also means the solar companies in that area have more work and this is always good for the Sun Valley economy.

If your Sun Valley travels to take you to the northern section of our city you may want to take a drive up Pendelton Street and look at this massive business park. It may bring a smile to your face to know that this huge area of land it’s not just sitting there but is collecting energy that can be used elsewhere. And it’s happening right here in Sun Valley California. We at Sun Valley Jose Mier always promote the positive aspects of our town and this is yet one more example of why Sun Valley is unique among other San Fernando Valley cities.
